Out of control

SO MANY BUTTONS.

About two months ago, my husband bought us a new television for the family room. Everything about it is amazing except for the fact that I can’t operate it.

At first, I thought it would be no big deal. There was one remote for the television. One power button. So simple. The trouble came after I pushed the power button. This guide came up, and when I pushed the “enter” button on the show I wanted to watch, instead of changing the channel to that show, another whole new guide came up. I’d push more buttons, and before I knew it, things were completely out of control. There were menus and options and for all I knew I launched missiles or something.

So I stopped using the TV. My husband said he’d give me a tutorial. I let him but, to be honest, my heart wasn’t in it. Then for his birthday, I bought him a sound bar to add to the television (this speaker thing that improves the sound quality), and then I was doubly screwed because at this point, I not only couldn’t figure out how to change the channel, but I also had no clue how to turn the volume up and down.

And THEN he bought a new Fire TV stick, which added another remote. He assured me it was so easy to use. All I had to do to watch Netfilx was hit one button. The problem was I could not remember which button on which remote I was supposed to hit.

I no longer watch television in the family room. I suppose I could really buckle down and learn, but I don’t care all that much. I could literally watch a show on my iPhone and be happy.

I have that same problem! We have an end table drawer full of remotes that I don’t know how to use!

    It’s a scourge on society.

I know! My kids do not understand the concept of actually having to watch commercials and not fast forward through them. Remember having to set the VCR to tape a show you wanted to see??

It sounds like you should have got a TV with Roku built-in. It comes with Netflix, FireTV/Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Hulu, Network TV Apps, and more built right into it.

P.S. There is an app for your phone to control the soundbar, so you can toss that remote away!
